There have been two more victories for LMRFC since our last blog post!
Coming off the back of a 102-5 point win in their previous game, they were feeling quietly confident going into their next game against Birmingham Medics, despite being the underdogs on paper – they have never beaten them and their squad is at least twice the size. Birmingham showed why they have topped their group the past few years with 3 well taken first half tries. The halftime score of 0-19 flattered Birmingham and with the fear of history repeating itself, LMRFC started the second half with fire in their hearts. LMRFC showed great intensity and it was soon rewarded after fly half Toby Austin performed a delicate dink over the top into October’s Player of the Month, Dan Otter’s, hands who then offloaded to centre partner Hugh Lockhart for LMRFC’s first try. This proved to be the turning point of the game and another try following by step in scrum half, and man of the match, George Esworthy. The final whistle was imminent and LMRFC needed a score. Up step replacement hooker Tom Raven who bundled over the line from close range. A last minute conversion from Milkha Basra won them the game. Final score 21-19 to LMRFC, historic.
The following Wednesday LMRFC took on Warwick Medics under the floodlights. Having not played this team for a couple of years, they were unsure of what to expect. An early score by fullback Milkha Basra eased the nerves and LMRFC settled into the gameplan. A second first half try in the corner by wing Ben Warren meant LMRFC led 14-0 at the break. The second half saw a spririted Warwick bounce back with a try of their own. Many nervous minutes lay ahead and LMRFC managed to cling on. With the last play of the game wing Ben Warren scored his second try to cement the 3rd victory for LMRFC in the NAMS group. Final score 21-5 to LMRFC. 3 wins from 3.
Next game Keele Medics.. keep your eyes peeled!
