Our Business Development Executive, Kitt, is feeling extremely proud this week as her partner, Jay, has been cycling in South Africa with Team Dimension Data and has given a bike to a young man called Junaid with the Charity Qhubeka.
Today, Qhubeka, a charity that moves people forward with bicycles has distributed 175 bicycles to school children and Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) volunteers in the Paarl East community (150 bicycles for learners and 25 for NHW members). The learners’ bicycles have been funded by Team Dimension Data, Africa’s first World Tour cycling team, and will help schoolchildren to travel to and from school more easily. The NHW bicycles, funded by Nederburg (one of the team’s sponsors), will boost safety in the community by improving NHW members’ ability to do security patrols and turning chaperoned school walking “buses” into school cycling “buses”.
To say that this bike will change Junaid’s life is an understatement. He will be able to mobilise easier, attend school and be safer. He said while chatting to Jay that he dreams of going to university and this bike is a step to achieving that dream!
