Moving home in 2019 can often seem like a confusing, overwhelming and all-round stressful experience. With so many complicated and important things to do, it can be easy to forget some of the essential steps to consider when moving to a new area. Especially one that you are probably unfamiliar with.
With this in mind, we’ve assembled four top tips to help you through this intimidating process.
1) Gather information on the local neighborhood
This first step is also one of the most important. If you move to a new area before spending some time researching the local property prices, crime rates or environmental concerns, you are running a big risk. These factors have a significant effect on your day-to-day life and will undoubtedly influence your decision when moving.
That’s why we’ve partnered up with Zoom Local. Their 48-page neighborhood reports will tell you everything that you need to know about your new area, by assembling a wide range of information from over 80 different sources.

2) Ensure that the property is accurately priced
Now that you’ve learned all about your new neighbourhood, the next stage in your move is to check that you’re are not being misled or overcharged for your property.
By registering for one of our private valuation services, our RICS regulated surveyors can use their expertise and experience to provide an accurate and reliable assessment on the value of a property. Even if you have already agreed your mortgage, the results of this survey can be raised with the Estate Agent and subsequently used as an effective tool for renegotiation.

3) Make sure you are organized before moving
This may seem obvious, but you would be surprised at how many people overlook this essential stage of the process.
Make sure you pick a moving date well in advance and book a reliable or trustworthy removals company, also making sure that any instructions you leave are clear and comprehensive. Most importantly, make sure you have completed all the essential paper work before hand, and have any potentially relevant documentation at the ready on your moving day.
4) Meet the community
By making the effort to go out and proactively introduce yourself, you’ll not only make a good first impression, but you are also more likely to build long lasting relationships. A very useful practice considering that these will be the people you are sharing a neighbourhood with for the foreseeable future.
What’s more, by contacting the local police station or council representatives, you can get first hand advice on what these institutions are able to offer you. Whether it be ensuring your safety, making your voice heard or simply the heads-up on any local events.
